Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association has been helping Queen slanders with a disability to precede active, healthy lives and achieve their sporting dreams since 1977. We are Queensland’s peak body for sport, recreation and fitness for people with a physical disability or vision impairment. Our mission is to enhance the lives of people with a disability through community engagement and education, sport and healthy activity. We support people with a range of disabilities including: Some of the ways we encourage our members with a disability are by: Providing sport and recreation, fitness and rehabilitation programs and services delivered by our staff and experienced volunteers and. Linking members with other sport and well activity providers who are committed to including people with a disability in their programs and services. We also play a vital role in the community, educating people about sport and healthy activity for people with a disability, and encouraging people with a disability to get active. Sport for people with spinal cord injuries was gaining in popularity as a result of the beginning Paralympic Games in Rome in 1960, and the Queensland Sports and Social Club for the Disabled’ played an active role in promoting disability sport and raising funds for Queensland athletes selected for national and international competitions. By the following year, the Association had extended its programs and services to include people with physical disabilities other than spinal cord injuries, including people with vision impairment. The Board is committed to providing appropriate governance to its members and is constantly reviewing the environment within which the Association operates. Amanda has more than 15 years’ board experience in the private and community sectors, as well as senior executive leadership experience in the private sector, notforprofit organizations and government. She is the founder and principal of Amanda Poland and Associates, an self-reliant consultancy providing corporate governance services, strategic business advice, and executive and board coaching to private sector companies and notforprofit organizations. A national and state wheelchair basketball player and coach, Jeremy has more than eight years’ experience in the disability sport and recreation field in Queensland and Victoria. Susan has extensive experience in corporate communication, active across a range of sectors including notforprofit organizations, research, resources and financial services. Her expertise incorporates a combine of marketing employee, stakeholder and change communication technical and copy writing and editing. She holds a Bachelor and Master of Education. He has been involved in improving the cultural, strategic and operational effectiveness of organizations to deliver powerful earnings' growth and has extensive experience in strategy development, investment evaluation practices, acquisitions and business development, operational process improvement and change management. Cornelia (Corny) has been a member of Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association since 1979, and has served on the Board (formerly known as the Management Team) since 1982, including four years as President. With over 20 years’ experience in the field, Melissa’s labor is focused on achieving strategic and operational organizational effectiveness, strategic HR delivery, business improvement analysis, temporary organizational behaviors and attitudes, performance management and change management. He has spent much of his career dedicated to nurturing and growing businesses of many shapes and sizes and is passionate about creating opportunities for notforprofit enterprises to become self sustaining. She is committed to delivering quality sport and energetic pastime opportunities and building more inclusive communities.
