MORNINGSONG is an a strongly supported vibrant and dynamic community singing group. In May 2011, it will be co-directed by the vibrant and talented duo John Thompson and Nicole Murry from the group Cloudstreet. Morningsong is led by Jane Becktel, who has been leading choirs for a couple of decades and finds no greater joy than showing people how fulfilling and easy it is to sing together in harmony. After singing most of us go out to lunch at a cafe on Oxford Street. They range in age from 21 to about 70 and have a variety of experiences from none to professional singer. We have men and women who come from all over Brisbane to sing together Friday morning. Just bring your passion for singing, a love of learning and a sense of humour. It is all about singing together and creating wonderful harmonies, rather than performing. Morningsong is based on fun and inclusion in a friendly environment. We sing a great variety of music: modern classical, shanties, anon., Trad., world-songs and amazing spontaneous harmony. There is no "choralography" required. There are no auditions and you don't have to read music as all songs are taught by ear. It is non-religious, although there is always room for a beautiful gospel song to slip into the repertoire. It is held in Bulimba on Friday mornings from 9.30 - 11.30. First session is free. We currently have a waiting list for women singers, but men singers are still on the wanted list. (more).
