Mercy Community Services (JCS) Family Services delivers inclusive, responsive and innovative services for children, young people and families in southeast Queensland. In 1861, six Sisters of Mercy arrived in Brisbane and became involved in teaching, nursing and caring for homeless children. We deliver inclusive, responsive and innovative services that enable children, young people and families to feel valued and have hope for the future. We are always reminded about their strength and resilience. Mercy Community Services Family Services cares for children who are unable to stay at home because of their protective needs. Foster carers are people living in the community who have the capacity to care for other children and who, behind a period of training and assessment, have been approved as suitable carers. Kinship carers are people from within a child’s own family or community who assume the responsibility of caring for the child. Intensive encourage protection provides surplus resources to encourage carers who are looking behind children with particularly hard behaviors. These surplus resources may include supplementary payments, respite concern and excess services to aid the child. Encourage and kinship concern is providing a safe, secure and supportive home for children and young people, from beginning to 18 years, who are unable to live with their families. The aim of encourage and kinship care is to reunite children with their families, as it is recognized that, if it is safe, the best place for a child to be is in the care of their family. Children and young people can be in foster and kinship concern for differing lengths of time. Our individual and family encourage programs provide a range of services to children, young people, families and local communities. In 1969, a social work unit was established at St Vincent’s to plan for children’s care, improve connections with their families, maintain standards of care and liaise with the statutory authority, at that time Queensland Department of Children’s Services. By the early 1990s, Fatima had five programs offering a continuum of care: family support, emergency placements for children lower twelve years of age, foster care, adolescent residential placements and an independent living program. We also join our young people who are transitioning out of the concern system with local community support services and with their families. We work in partnership with the Department of Communities Kid Safety Services, who have overall legal responsibility for foster carers and children and other professionals who yield assessment and specialist advice for children, young people, their families and carers. The North Brisbane center Foster and Kinship Concern Program opened in 2006 and recruits, trains and provides ongoing intervention and encourage to encourage and kinship carers caring for children and young people who are unable to live at home. Mercy Community Services (JCS) Family Services at the Zillmere center offers a continuum of integrated program supports to children, young people and families. We deliver encourage care and kinship concern programs for children and young people who are unable to live at home because of kid care concerns. The Therapeutic Residential Program provides up to four residential concern places for young people and an additional six foster ardor kinship care Intensive Intervention Placement Promote placements. Our counseling Program in Toowoomba meets the needs of children and young people aged 5 to 17 years who have entered the statutory child care system and been placed in encourage or kinship care. Mercy Community Services provides encourage care and kinship concern services for children and young people who are unable to live at home because of kid concern concerns. Intensive encourage care provides excess resources to foster carers who are looking after children with particularly hard behaviors.
