Both Mimi and her husband had a love of millinery with Harold’s father interested in importing and Mimi focused on manufacturing. The business started from a unpretentious store in inner Melbourne and moved to Brisbane eventually growing to five stores in the Brisbane city area. Millinery was extremely popular in the 1930’s correct through the early 1970’s and as such the demand for milliners was great. Such was the demand for millinery products in those days. The Albert Street deposit was famous in the 1940’s as it was the first place in Brisbane to install up and down escalators allowing patrons to easily travel between floors and avoiding steps. It was also the first store to install a self service coffee shop, much to the dismay of Myers across the road. Much of the ingenious stock came from Switzerland and since then products have been sought from all corners of the globe whilst still maintaining a mighty relationship with Swiss products. Mimi Millinery focuses on all types of Millinery products but specialisms in flowers, ribbons, bailing, Swiss braid, cones and tapelines. Mimi Millinery has often been singles out as having the worlds unique collection of millinery items. First place was opened by Mimi Ginsberg and her husband in 1932 in inner Melbourne, Australia catering the many incoming new Australians and the huge demand for millinery products at the time. Hats were more than fair something to wear, they were the heart and soul of the fashion industry at the time.
