Dr Goa believes in being at the forefront of evolution in plastic surgery research and surgical techniques. Dr Goa believes that a fervent desire to learn and to remain to improve patient outcome is essential to a surgeon’s development no matter what glossy of experience they are at. In addition to ongoing professional development, Dr Goa is also involved in the training of local surgeons through mentor ship, registrar teaching, and as a senior lecturer for the University of Queensland School of Medicine. Dr Goa enjoys writing and has published extensively, both informally in community and general practice literature, as well as in international peer reviewed plastic surgery journals and textbooks. Firstly, both the patient and surgeon must be qualified to define and outline the areas they are not happy with or that require restoration improvement. Secondly, the goals of surgery and expectations on what is reasonably achievable must be clearly defined. And finally, the surgeon must possess the experience and technical expertise to be capable to accomplish the stated goals, and also to be able to deal with any potential complications should they arise. With organizations such as Interplast and Operation Smile, Dr Goa joins a team of volunteers to perform reconstructive surgery on children born with facial deformities. Voluntary labor that allows Dr Goa to utilize his skills to change the lives of those less fortunate brings him a sense of reality and a greater gratitude for life. Exterior of work, Dr Goa enjoys spending time with his wife, eating good food, and enjoying the great outdoors.
