The Queensland Academy of Sport (OAS) is an initiative of the Queensland Government aimed at supporting the State's elite and identified developing athletes. The OAS has grown significantly since its initial beginnings now supporting more than 600 athletes across 22 diverse sports and individual scholarship places. Athletes with disabilities must be competing in a Paralympic sport, with an individual top eight world ranking or two top eight finishes at meaningful international competitions, or be members of a national team with a top six world ranking to be eligible. OAS scholarship holders have access to world class coaching and support services including sport science, strength and conditioning, medical and career and education in addition to financial support, for competition and training costs, depending on the slick of their scholarship. It has allowed the OAS to centralism its operations providing access to the superior training and promote services the State has to offer. It supports Queensland’s elite athletes through access to expert knowledge, tall performance coaching as well as specialist encourage services and world class facilities. With leaders in the areas of physical performance, performance science, performance health, personal development and in our center of Excellence for Applied Sport Science Research, there is nothing holding us back. In 2017 we have reevaluated our commitment to supporting issues that matter to the OAS, the state and on a national level. Participating in important community engagement is one area we can all strive to confront head on. The OAS is keen to become more energetic in showing its encourage of charitable organizations and its interaction with our communities. We are committed to making an impact in this area and have also engaged with our partnering state sporting organizations to share knowledge and look at ways we can labor together to ensure our presence is strong. The OAS employs a expansive range of staff in areas such as coaching, sport science, sport medicine, management and administration. Staff members are based at the Academy's Brisbane headquarters or offside. All OAS coaches are required to possess glossy two or overhead accreditation for their sport, lower the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme. A Board of previous elite athletes and leaders in the Queensland sporting and business communities are responsible to the Minister for Housing and Public Works and Minister for Sport, for developing OAS policy and overseeing the overall direction of the Academy. The Board includes a number of previous elite athletes and leaders in the Queensland sporting community. Awarded Medal of the Order of Australia in the 1994 Queen's Birthday honors List for services to people with a disability and the sport of weightlifting. Held a variety of positions around project and event management. Has over 28 years extensive experience in broadcasting, media and communications, event management and networking. Churchill Fellowship researching role modeling for women and girls in sport through media coverage. OAS athletes are assisted in their education and employment pursuits by a number of supporters who present educational scholarships or flexible employment opportunities suitable to the needs of elite athletes. To ensure athletes are kept safe and protected at all times, it is important that OAS strives to establish, build and maintain positive relationships with athletes, particularly children and young people.

Research promote is provided at an institutional level through project, fellowship and scholarship support, with sport science encompassing a expansive range of disciplines such as bio mechanics, engineering, medicine, nutrition, physiology, physiotherapy, psychology and management. They labor closely with coaches, sport scientists, strength and conditioning coaches and Athlete Career and Education practitioners to enhance the overall performance of OAS athletes. Both fresh and returning scholarship holders have the opportunity to discard time with their sports dietitian to aid improve their nutrition knowledge, application of this knowledge and ultimately their performance. Physiologists with coaches, athletes and other scientists in monitoring performance and the demands in both training and competition settings. OAS biomechanists are involved in the observation, measurement and analysis of training and competition performance and use their expertise to encourage coach accepting and athlete development. Aptitude acquisition staff apply this expertise regularly with coaches and athletes and conduct research to design training programs that give both coaches and athletes a competitive advantage. The Sport Science Unit has an integrated approach to the observation and analysis of performance in training and competition environments. Performance analysis underpins each of the major discipline as physiologists, biomechanists and ability acquisition specialists are interested in the use of information and communications technology by coaches to prosper athlete performance in training and competition environments. Assessment of training and competition demands. The position is responsible to the Sport Science Manager, OAS, and liaising to other OAS sport scientists, coaches and athletes. OAS Sport Scientists work across a range of disciplines including physiology, bio mechanics and aptitude acquisition. It is not necessary for participating athletes to be competing in team sports to gain from this leadership program. The leadership training, while focused on sport, will help the program participants both in and out of the sporting arena. Together with the Queensland Academy of Sport Athlete Career and Education Program, athletes will benefit knowledge of leadership concepts, get the opportunity to test those concepts in the field and then reflect on their abilities with the assistance of a Leadership Coach. This means that the Emerging Leaders' Program is very much based on the individual athletes' needs, making the program especially pertinent for the participating athletes, with the view to maximizing benefits for the individual and their sport. The Emerging Leaders' Program has been developed to include a number of specific components, geared towards increasing the participants' self awareness and their awareness of leadership concepts. Participants of the program interact with retired world class elite athletes who have had or still have leadership roles. The Performance Science Unit encompasses three different disciplines of Physiology, Biomechanics and Skill Acquisition to bear evidence based promote and undertake applied research projects to help elite athletes and coaches. The OAS employs coaches to implement elite training programs for the Academy's athletes, many of the OAS coaches are also appointed as National Coaches at varying levels of elite competition. Staff bear promote to OAS and ABS coaches, and other OAS sports medicine network personal (physicians, dietitians, psychologists, physiotherapists etc) across a range of areas that incorporates steady testing and day to day monitoring of athletes as well as project based labor across the various programs.
