Hospitality Staffs on the Run was established to provide a quality and dependable source of casual, temporary and emergency front of house staff to clients looking for quality, flexibility and huge service. It’s that time of year when everyone starts thinking about dinner’s out, catching up with friends and relaxing after a big year. And although the total team and brigade of dedicated people active at Chefs On The Run have had a HUGE year too for us, it’s actually when we have to crank things. Since Chefs On The Run was started, we have had a commitment to our Industry, the people who work in it and to resisting benefit aspiring attempts to reduce the requirement for quality and professionalism. Ever since we started but with increasing frequency over the preceding couple of years, we have been told by people responsible for procurement that we have to cut our rates or lose their business. In the previous two years, we have probably turned down 10,00 hours of labor based on our refusal to present in to this pressure, because we truly trust that there is a limited number of quality people in the industry and because inflicting people who aren’t really up to their job on our clients is unthinkable to us. So regardless of what is being said out there, Chefs On The Run is a supporter of weekend penalty rates and will continue to pay them and charge employers accordingly unless or until the politicians change the law. Every year we do our best to contain the rate increase to whatever the Award has increased by which this year means 2.5 on top of hourly wage rates and the resultant flow through to on costs calculated on them including Payroll Tax, Superannuation and Workers Compensation insurance. This year, like every year before it, we will withstand the temptation to discount rates and demolish the margins available to businesses supplying casual personnel to our industry.
