To aid in the provision of the superior service available, passengers are asked to advise their airline or travel agent when making a flight booking, of any assistance needed at the airport. While the stylish DOB Fire System is fully compliant with all Australian safety standards, increasing passenger numbers and the continuing expansion of the Terminal requires an upgrade of services. The works will provide upgrades of the existing smoke detection system, existing emergency lighting and depart signs, existing sound and intercom system, fresh dry’ system fire alarm services and improved overall system performance. The project is aimed at further improving passenger flow through the arrivals' area and will result in a redesigned arrivals process, improved way finding signage, clearly marked passenger channels, relocation and expansion of concourse automated Knowing Gate kiosks, improved lighting and fresh floor finishes. The project delivered 12 fresh Smart Gate kiosks on the Departures glossy and a further 11 gates at Arrivals. The automated border controls have resulted in faster processing of passengers and reduced queue times in Passport Control. The project delivered refurbished male and female bathrooms, refurbished Parents Room, a newly tiled bathroom corridor, refurbished northern concourse bathroom and Smokers Area. While the previous escalator system was fully pliable with all Australian safety standards, increasing passenger numbers and the continuing expansion of both terminals needed an upgrade of services. The works delivered new glass panel fall care to improve safety and security, fresh lower step lighting to aid users and more external lighting along the escalators.
