The principal activity of the banking & financial services law association is to hold an annual conference a conference has been held every year since 1984, adelaide, melbourne, but conferences have from time to time been held in sydney, frequently on the gold coast, canberra and auckland. The association occasionally hosts seminars and workshops in various major cities in australasia on key areas where there is felt to be a need for practitioners to meet with a view to addressing matters like new legislation and practices amongst the various law firms and their bank clients, and these are frequently well-regarded and attended. Up to a$50, and a prize pool of up to a$15, 000 may be awarded to a successful applicant for the scholarship award, 000 is available to successful applicants for the legal research prizes. The association also offers as an integral part of its activities the legal scholarship prize and the legal research prizes. In 2009, the 26th annual conference is returning to the gold coast and will be held at the sheraton mirage resort on friday 31st july and saturday 1st august 2009. We were established in 1983 to share information on banking law and practice and since then, have expanded to encompass financial services and insolvency law. Our aim is to produce thought leadership on issues apropos to our members through connecting with some of the world’s leading practitioners, academics, regulators and members of the judiciary. As well as providing deep insight into technical legal issues we also pride ourselves on generous attainable guidance on how things labor in the authentic world as we recognize that excellence in banking financial services and insolvency law is more than impartial an understanding of the black letter law. Our members are lawyers and insolvency practitioners from law firms, banks, financial institutions, trustee companies and insolvency firms at all stages of their career. Our Younger Members Committee supports members who are honest starting out in banking financial services and insolvency to help them navigate their way through the legal landscape and achieve their stuffed potential. Each year our marquee event is to grip the leading conference for banking financial services and insolvency law in Australia and Fresh Zealand. Members of our Conference Planning Committee labor tirelessly to ensure that we have world class speakers on topics that are pertinent to our members. In particular, we carefully select the program to ensure that we have a balance of sessions dealing with technical legal issues and possible topics. The annual conference is also a great opportunity for members to get together in a relaxed environment to share ideas and knowledge. We are immensely arrogant of our scholarship and research prize programs which each year attract applications and entries from some of the brightest minds in banking financial services and insolvency law. Our scholarship recipients have gone on to practice at leading law firms across the world, teach at prestigious universities and share their knowledge through other career paths. Their contribution to the greater understanding of intricate legal issues has been significant. Through our thought leadership we have also been able to establish market practice with the development of standard legal opinions. Our standard opinions are best in class and provide feasible guidance to practitioners as healthy as reducing time consuming and costly dispute at the critical portion of a financing transaction. The board is calm of 10 directors who are leading lawyers in the banking financial services and insolvency fields across Australia, Fresh Zealand and beyond. We rely on dedicated members and volunteers to aid us achieve our aims of sharing knowledge and ideas on banking financial services and insolvency law and practice and helping our members develop in their chosen field.
